Two-sided marketplace platform

Buyers, sellers, search, ratings, payouts, dispute resolution — all the boring infrastructure a marketplace needs before the product can be interesting.

The Problem

Marketplace founders try to build differentiated UX and end up rebuilding Stripe, Algolia, and ZenDesk badly along the way. The boring 70% kills them.

The Approach
  1. 01

Built the supply-onboarding flow first because liquidity dies without it: profile, KYC, payout account, listing, go-live in under an hour.

  2. 02

Implemented search via Algolia with relevance tuning specific to the marketplace's category vocabulary.

  3. 03

Wired Stripe Connect for escrow + payout with hold periods aligned to dispute SLAs.

  4. 04

Designed a dispute flow that's a real workflow — evidence upload, adjudicator queue, decision log — not just an email thread.

  5. 05

Built admin tooling that lets ops act on either side without giving them root.

Marketplaces don't die from bad UX. They die from broken payout flows and unloved disputes.

The Outcome
  • Sellers can onboard themselves; ops only handle exceptions.

  • Buyer trust comes from a real dispute mechanism, not a help link.

  • Founders spend their attention on supply growth and unit economics, not on plumbing.

  • Search relevance is tuned to the marketplace, not generic e-commerce defaults.
